Founder, Multilinguals of Melbourne
Laura Blackmore grew up in a small, sleepy coastal town on the South Coast of NSW where her exposure to languages and cultural diversity was limited. However, it wasn’t until she went on a six month study abroad trip to Spain in 2013 that her love for languages and culture flourished.
When Laura returned from her exchange, she continued to study Spanish while completing a degree in Communication and Media Studies, which included a major in Journalism and minor in Spanish and International Studies. She was also active in various international groups. She graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2014.
After participating in a short exchange program at the beginning of 2015 in Mexico City, Laura moved to Melbourne in July to start a Master’s in Translation Studies at Monash University. She is passionate about the relationship between language, culture and people, which was her inspiration towards creating Multilinguals of Melbourne (M.o.M) in September 2015. M.o.M is an online platform that shares stories about language, identity and cultural diversity.
Laura is also knowledgeable about the Latin American and Spanish networks that operate in Melbourne.
Some of her other interests include the outdoors, hiking, running, surfing and spending quality time with loved ones.
